Rabies Vaccination in North Jakarta Reaches 40.64 Percent of Total Target

From January to May 31, North Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture, and Food Security (KPKP) Sub-agency has vaccinated 1,829 animals that have potential to transmit rabies in the region.

North Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency Head, Unang Rustanto conveyed, his side has vaccinated 1,829 animals or 40.64 percent from this year's total target of 4,500 animals.

"Rabies vaccination is given to dogs, cats, monkeys, and civets. It is given for free," he mentioned, Monday (5/31).

1,126 Pets Have Been Vaccinated Against Rabies in South Jakarta

According to him, animals that will be vaccinated must meet the requirements. They shouldn't be sick, pregnant, breastfeeding, and should be old enough for vaccination. Residents who want to vaccinate their pets must register, have Jakarta ID card (KTP), and be domiciled in North Jakarta.

"We give vaccine to dogs, cats, monkeys, and civets with minimum age of four months," he said.

Since 2004, Jakarta Government has been declared free of rabies and it is currently one of eight provinces declared free of rabies. The other provinces are Bangka Belitung, Riau, Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta, Papua, and West Papua.

"HPR vaccination is given as our effort to maintain Jakarta as non-rabies area. Now Jakarta is categorized as rabies-free area and it is our job to maintain it," he asserted.
